Australia's most expensive holidays

Australian Traveller magazine has revealed how the world's A-list celebrities and the super rich are holidaying down under. Dubbed 'The Seven Heavenly Sins' the magazine has listed the country's most expensive travel experiences across seven holidaying categories – in a hotel suite, at a beach house, in a private jet, on the water, at the snow, in a car and touring the outback.

Lizard Island in the far north of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park is the magazine's ultimate beach break, where a mere $454,000 will rent you five nights during peak season (July to November).

When it comes to the most expensive city hotel in Australia, Crown Towers Melbourne is top of the list offering rooms for $27,500 per night in the hotel's best rooms – the Presidential Villas.

How about making a big splash around Australia's stunning shorelines? A week aboard Seafaris, the winner of the 2007 World Superyacht Award, starts at around $124,850… and that's excluding fuel, food and drink. The magazine also features the most expensive luxury for an Aussie road trip – a Winnebago complete with high-quality leather furnishing, three LCD flatscreen TVs and a cocktail bar.

"These are definitely over the top prices that obviously the everyday person cannot afford. It's just amazing to find out what a lot of money will buy," said Australian Traveller editor Greg Barton.
